Rocketman Movie Review

Category: Movie – Drama, Biography

Rating: 7/10

Rocketman tells the story of Elton John and his rise to fame. The movie explores some of the highlights and turning points in his career. It gives a glimpse into the life of this very interesting person. I didn’t know much about Elton John going into the movie so I didn’t have a personal connection to the music the way a long time fan would, but that doesn’t mean I enjoyed it any less.

The movie is filled with upbeat musical sequences and dance scenes that made it feel like a fantasy world at times. It offered fun and creative scenes in between the heavier moments of Elton’s difficult relationship with his family, his abusive music manager, and his drug and alcohol addiction.

It has a good balance between the serious moments and the fun moments. You see him put on these glorious costumes and give passionate performances both onstage and offstage. Taron Egerton gave an amazing performance with his insane singing voice and ability to portray the range of emotions required of this role.

I highly recommend this movie to anyone who is a fan of Elton John or musical movies in general. It tells an emotional story and I think the movie takes its time developing the characters and slowing down when it needs to, instead of glossing over important moments for the sake of including his whole life in two hours. Overall it was a solid film and I give it a 7/10.
